Affording RPRY

Financial Aid

We understand that full tuition for a Yeshiva education can be a huge burden on a family. With the help of generous benefactors and community fundraising efforts, RPRY strives to assure that a Torah education is accessible to all of our community’s children. We are committed to providing support and are happy to provide the following financial aid initiatives to those in need.

Streamlined Financial Aid:
We are excited to announce a new financial assistance initiative at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva!  Families who meet certain criteria are eligible to access streamlined financial-aid. The streamlined financial-aid (SFA) amount is calculated on a sliding scale based upon household income and number of dependents age K through 12th grade. Please see below for further details including eligibility. Anyone for whom this is insufficient is encouraged to apply through our traditional financial aid process.

Streamlined Financial-aid (SFA) amount per RPRY student is displayed in the below chart

  • Approved amount will be credited on tuition statement
  • These amounts do not need to be repaid. However, if financial circumstances improve, we would appreciate contributions in the future so that we can similarly assist others in difficult circumstances
  • Families are not eligible to receive streamlined financial aid for early-childhood, therefore the number of children in the first column starts at kindergarten and applies to children attending private school
  • Income will be verified by submission of your 2023 tax return. Filing 2023 taxes is required before the grant is finalized. Change to income will be verified by submission of your 2023 tax return
  • Those with high levels of unearned income/losses or business income on schedules C, D and E will be subject to additional review and may be ineligible for this program. They will continue to be eligible for traditional financial aid as appropriate
  • Families with real estate taxes in excess of $20,000 in NJ or $15,000 in NY are not eligible for SFA

Families applying for traditional financial aid are not eligible for SFA. The financial aid process will take into account all financial circumstances.

  • SFA amounts may be adjusted in the event of excess demand for this program and any change will be communicated soon after the application deadline
  • Deadline is May 31st. No applications will be accepted after this date
  • All information will be reviewed and held in strict confidence by the scholarship committee

Traditional Financial Aid Application:
While the committee remains committed to helping those truly in need, the continuation and success of the Yeshiva is dependent upon a financial responsibility undertaken by parents. We therefore ask that before families apply for scholarship, they consider very carefully whether or not they have done everything possible to prioritize their Yeshiva tuition payments over discretionary expenses. We ask families to view their financial obligation to the Yeshiva as a basic living expense which takes priority over non-essential spending. In addition, we ask that each family consider the following items as general guidelines for families seeking to maximize their potential scholarship eligibility. It is NOT an all inclusive list but is intended to give some insight into some of the criteria considered as part of an overall evaluation:

  1. Housing Expenses – For applicants considering a home purchase, construction project or refinancing – undertake a loan principal balance and property tax obligation that are manageable in light not only of current but future yeshiva obligations as well.
  2. Vehicle Expenses – Careful management of car expenses with an emphasis on practicality before luxury.
  3. Tzedaka – Funds should be considered to pay current yeshiva tuition obligations before charitable donations.
  4. Retirement / College Savings – Careful consideration should be given to funds allocated to 401ks, retirement accounts, 529 plans and the like in light of current yeshiva tuition obligations.
  5. Summer Programs – We recognize the value of summer camp and have historically made an allowance for it. However, careful consideration should be given to the meaningful variance in cost between camps as well as between the first and second months.
  6. Travel & Vacation – The benefits of travel, vacation and spending time together as a family outside of the home are very important. There are numerous low-cost, high value opportunities to enjoy family vacation on a budget. Many families make appropriate decisions in this arena to help make ends meet. As a general principle, scholarship preference will be given to families who travel or vacation within their budget in light of all the various obligations.

Please note: Financial aid applications will be processed through FACTS Grants and Aid Application..

Several Points to Note Regarding the Application Process:

  1. Scholarship applications must be submitted entirely on-line at https://online.factsmgt.com/aid. Please log on to the website, create an account and complete the application. If you have previously created an account on https://online.factsmgt.com/aidfor RPRY or any other school, you should use the same account to apply this year as well. Please note that, as per the website’s instructions, an application is not considered complete and will not be processed by the committee if there are missing fields or if any required attachment is not submitted in accordance with the instructions on the website. You may view this What To Expect Videocreated by FACTS about the website / portal.
  1. One of the fields on the form asks applicants to state the amount of tuition they are prepared to pay for the upcoming year and amount of aid they are seeking. Please note that financial aid is not applicable towards school fee obligations. A response to these fields is mandatory and we ask that applicants respond to these questions in a serious manner. A carefully considered request that takes into account the amount of the undiscounted tuition bill, the amount of assistance, if any, provided in prior years, the number of children the applicant has in the Yeshiva, and the applicant’s current financial condition will be given significant weight by the committee.
  1. One of the fields asks about annual mortgage expenses while another asks about real estate taxes. When responding to the mortgage expense inquiry, please do not include the real estate tax component of your mortgage payment, since that is properly captured elsewhere in the application.
  1. In order to facilitate equitable decisions for all participants, the committee will enforce strict deadlines. This year’s deadline is May 31st. Any applications past this deadline will require further review in order to assess availability of funds

If you have any questions about the financial aid application process, please send an email to nshlian@rpry.org or the RPRY business office at businessoffice@rpry.org. Your question will be directed to the appropriate party and answered as best as possible.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
